Creative Coalition Welcome New Culture and Business Secretaries

The Creative Coalition Campaign (CCC) welcomes the appointments of John Whittingdale as Culture Secretary and Sajid Javid as Business Secretary and calls on them to stand up for the interests of the creative industries in the UK and Europe.

Both new ministers have been great supporters of the creative industries during previous roles. John Whittingdale was previously chair of the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee and was a strong advocate for the need to tackle online copyright infringement. Sajid Javid was previously Culture Secretary during which time he supported the industry-led Creative Content UK initiative.

Commenting on the appointments, Christine Payne, Chair of the Creative Coalition and General Secretary of Equity said:

“John and Sajid both have great experience of working with the creative sector and have been great supporters on the crucial issue of tackling online copyright infringement. We look forward to working with them on critical issues for the creative sector, including the fight against online copyright infringement, and we urge them to ensure the Government stands up for the interests of the UK’s creative sector in Europe.”
